Norman Haines, 85, of Berne, IN, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, Saturday, December 2, 2017. He was born in his home to Chester and Arba (Ray) Haines on June 30, 1932.
Norman graduated in the top 10% of his class of 10 at Jefferson High School. He was a star basketball player and loved to reminisce.
He married Doris Liechty on June 21, 1958 at his Uncle Bob’s Parsonage. He loved his wife with a deep love. They were blessed with four children: Lyle (Kristy) Haines, Linda Glessner, Thomas (Crystal) Haines, Sandy (Mike) Christner. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren: Andy Haines (deceased), Eric Haines (deceased), Natalie (Dustin) Mann, Ben Haines, Joshua (Michaela) Cisney, Corey (Sarah) Cisney, Kylie Cisney, Holly Glessner, Kyle Glessner, Scott Glessner, Courtney Haines, Kara (Cody) Lehman, Morgan (John) Neuenschwander, and Dylan Christner and six great grandchildren: Braylynn Cover, Camden Genth, Hayes Neuenschwander, Ransom Cisney, Hedia Cisney, and Savannah Glessner.
Norman had two brothers, Lester Haines (deceased), Walter Haines (deceased), two sisters, Harriett Simmons, Columbia, Mississippi and Marilyn Cory (deceased).
After working a short time at General Electric and Central Soya he started his own Millwright business, Haines Engineering, which is now being run by his two sons, Lyle and Tom.
Norman was a member of New Corydon Bible Church where he was actively involved and loved to serve. He taught Sunday School for many years. Norman was a very dedicated and passionate man. He always gave 110%. He was a skilled metal worker, machinist, and inventor and was never afraid of heights. Besides his love to work, he also loved to fish, garden, and farm. He loved to ride his golf cart with Doris and his dog. He was an avid IU basketball fan. His highlight of the summer was to go to the same Lake Cottage and fish, which he did for over 55 years, enjoying the family. “Bud” was the biggest prankster and teaser, in full operation till the day he died.
Visitation will be from 2-8pm, December 5, 2017 @ Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at West Missionary Church in Berne, with calling 1 hour prior to service. Pastor Pat Young will be officiating and burial will be in Springhill Cemetery, Berne.
