Obituary

David Lee Howell, 81, of Bluffton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

David was born on April 1, 1945, in Marion, Indiana, to Howard and Imo (Kimes) Howell. He grew up in southern Wells County and graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1963. Immediately following graduation, David served his country in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as an aviation electrician.

On October 30, 1965, David married Lorraine (Warner) Howell. Together they shared more than sixty years of unwavering love and devotion before Lorraine preceded him in death on April 4, 2026.

A lifelong farmer, David also dedicated forty years of service to General Electric, where he worked from 1966 until his retirement in 2006. He was a hardworking man with an incredible mechanical mind, who could fix just about anything. Whether repairing machinery, working on cars, or helping someone in need, David never hesitated to put his talents to work.

David loved the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, spending time on his boat, and appreciating nature. More than any hobby or accomplishment, however, his greatest pride was his family. He treasured every moment spent with his children, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his family grow. He will be remembered as a devoted and amazing husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend, and a man whose quiet strength, humility, and generosity touched countless lives.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than sixty years, Lorraine (Warner) Howell; his parents, Howard and Imo (Kimes) Howell; and his brother, Robert "Bob" Howell.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Joy) Howell and Tresa (Tom) Siegel; his grandchildren, Courtney (Andrew) Cain, Caleb Siegel, Catlin (Colin) Longeway, Cassie Siegel, Jaykeb (Kayley) Howell, Kinsley (Jeremy) Hicks, and Hayden Brown; his great-grandchildren, Hudson Cain, Rhett Cain, Bruin Cain, and Larson Hicks, with two additional great-grandchildren on the way; his brother, Charles (Mary) Howell; his sister, Janet Klefeker; and several nieces and nephews.
