Obituary

Deberoth Kay Baker, 75, passed away at her home in Warren April 27, 2025. Born in Wells County, Indiana on December 12, 1949, "Deb" was a loving mother and grandmother, who cherished her family and friends, as well as her town of Warren, where she lived her whole life. Deb first attended school in Warren before graduating in 1967 from Huntington High School. She married Dee H. Baker in May 1969 and they had two daughters, Anita and Bridget. Deb worked for many years in the Huntington County School Corporation, serving as both a bus driver and a custodian. She was also an avid supporter of local school athletics, never missing a game for any of her four grandchildren, no matter where it was at. She was always the first one in the crowd to react to a missed call or big play, making sure her grandkids knew she was there to watch. Even when her grandkids weren't the ones playing, Deb could be seen front row at any Huntington North football or basketball game, cheering on the team as loud as she could. She was also greatly involved in numerous activities in and around Warren. Starting in 1971, Deb became involved with the local Boy Scouts. In the early 80s she also became involved with coaching tee ball, which she did for 23 years. Deb was also involved in the Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, making memories with her friends that she cherished for the rest of her life. Many of these activities were with her best friend Louise Applegate, including successful bowling teams in both Marion and Hartford City. Deb loved to bowl. Deb was also a devout Christian, having attended First Christian Church in Warren.

Deb is survived by her two daughters, Anita (Larry) Sharpe and Bridget (David) Swaidner, both of Warren. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Mackinzie Sharpe of Warren, Spencer Sharpe of Indianapolis, Brooke Swaidner of Warren and Brodee Swaidner of Warren, as well as Mackinzie's fiancé Luke Skinner and Spencer's girlfriend Kali Ingels. She is also survived by her sisters Joyce Buzzard and Carol Tribolet, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Maxine Sheets and brother, Ronny Sheets.

In honor of Deb's memory, the family asks that donations or memorials be made to the Salamonie Summer Festival, in honor of her love and support of Warren's biggest event. Deb committed many years to working with the Festival and would like to see her love for it continue for others.
