Delores E.
"Dee" Frederick
Jun 20, 1939 — Sep 23, 2024
Delores E. "Dee" Frederick went to her heavenly home and was reunited with the love of her life on Monday, September 23 at 3:43 am.
Dee was born on June 20, 1939, in Clarkston, Washington to Earl and Dolly (Whybark) Gaskill. She lived in Huntington, Indiana for a few years while her dad finished his schooling to become a pastor. They returned to Idaho, and she graduated in 1957 from Kendrick High School. She was involved in anything with music and proudly carried the baritone in the marching band. This was noteworthy because she only weighed 85 pounds and stood less than five feet tall. During her formative years she learned how to cook. Anyone that ever ate one of her meals knows that she learned those lessons well.
In the fall of 1957, she returned to Huntington College to become a schoolteacher. But God had other plans for her. She met a handsome young man who was studying to become a pastor. On her 20th birthday, they were married. Together, they were a great ministry team. They served the following congregations: Dillman and Mt. Zion United Brethren Church circuit in Wells County; Grayston Avenue UB Church in Huntington, Lancaster UB Church in Lancaster, Ohio. In 1985, they joined the United Methodist Church and pastored Clymers/Webb Chapel in Cass County and then served for 18 years at Woodruff Grove in LaGrange County before they semi-retired. They moved back to Warren in 2006, and pastored part-time at Epworth UM Church in Bluffton for 10 years until retirement in May of 2016. During their 57 years of ministry, Dee was instrumental in planning children's programs, Vacation Bible Schools, public suppers, Maundy Thursday programs, playing the piano, directing the choir, and preparing many, many meals. Whenever she was aware of a need, she was the first to organize help. She worked part time as a substitute teacher as well as various secretarial positions including serving as the church secretary for most of their assignments.
Until her health failed, she attended The Church at McNatt and enjoyed worshipping with many friends from their early days of ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Dick Frederick, on September 11, 2024, and her sister, Karen Heck.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy (Gary) Hoobler of Marion, Iowa and Sheryl (Steve) Cline of Huntington, Indiana. Six grandchildren - Jennifer (Kevin) Dale of Avon, Indiana; David (Ashley) Hoobler of Marion, Iowa; Justin (Rubi) Glancy of Beaumont, California; Preston (Abbey) Hoobler of Flintstone, Georgia; Richard (Lindsey) Hoobler of Austin, Texas and Audrey Hoobler of Marion, Iowa. Seven great-grandchildren- Emma, Jackson, Lily, Jesse, Cali, Ethan, Jay and Indi (expected to arrive in December). Brother-in-law, Terrance Heck of Hilyard, Ohio and sister-in-law, Karen (Susie) Laugle of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel, located at 801 N. Huntington Ave. Warren, on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 4pm to 7pm and again on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 3pm to 4pm. A funeral service will begin Saturday at 4pm with Tony Garton and Rev. Terrance Heck officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery on the Heritage Pointe of Warren campus.
Preferred memorials are to The Church at McNatt or the Richard and Delores Frederick Ministry Scholarship fund at Huntington University.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Warren, Indiana.
