His partner for the past twenty-two years was Phyllis Weesner. They resided in Marion, Indiana. Ed had five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He had many loving nieces and nephews. Phyllis's family became special to him as well. One little 5-year-old named Mila Rose Cunningham (a great grandchild of Phyllis's) was especially dear to him.
Ed was an avid sportsman. At an early age, 10 or 11, he began to hunt and trap. He became so skilled as a hunter that he provided needed food for his mom and dad's table. When hunting or trapping season began, his teachers knew they could expect Ed to be a little late for classes.

He received the National Defense Service Medal, The Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS, VFW and the American Legion.
During high school and for a year after high school, Ed worked at Sneath Glass Factory in Hartford City. He went from there to Anaconda Wire in Marion. After his military service he was hired at Chrysler Corporation (now Stellantis) in Kokomo. He retired after 20 years of employment and moved to Florida.
Ed busied himself with flipping property both in Florida and Indiana. Two of his dear nieces, Penny Collins and Sarah Kleinknight, along with his partner Phyllis helped him as he reconditioned the properties.
Ed learned how to sail and scuba dive. He bought a sailboat and cruised around the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. He also fished in the Gulf as often as he could persuade someone to go with him.
Ed's health began to fail so he and Phyllis moved back to Phyllis' home in Marion. His death occurred April 13, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Marion, IN.
