James
Campbell
Dec 1, 1935 — Jan 1, 2025
James "Jim" Herman Campbell, 89, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim lived a full and purposeful life marked by integrity and hard work, dedication to his family, and service to others.
Born in 1933 to Josie and Clarence Campbell as the youngest of five children, Jim spent both his earliest years (where his parents worked and lived) and last years at the Methodist Home in Warren, Indiana.
Jim graduated from Union Township High School in 1953 and met the love of his life, Lois Beaver, through their shared involvement in Rural Youth Club. Together through their 68 years of marriage, they were blessed with four wonderful children: Vicki, Mark, Ned and Kent. Jim found immense joy in being a family man in his role as husband, dad and grandpa. His wife, children, eight granddaughters and ten great-grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and delight.
Jim provided many rich life experiences and adventures to his family as they lived in Indiana, Michigan, Japan and England through a long and successful career with Borg Warner. Wherever they lived, Jim and Lois always plugged into a local church as raising their boys in Christian faith and community was their family priority. They created and shared many fun family memories through Boy Scout activities, camping trips, family vacations and summer weekends with friends, kids and grandkids at their lake house on Lake Webster.
He had had a variety of hobby interests throughout his life including model airplanes, water sports, computers, photography, home remodeling, woodworking and genealogy – for Jim there was always something new to learn, someone new to meet, and something to get done. In his retired years, Jim loved travelling around the U.S. with his wife in their Discovery RV doing Habitat for Humanity. For many years, they enjoyed being Hoosier snowbirds with their many friends at Crystal Lake in Naples, Florida. He also loved being the "caretaker" of Lancaster Cemetery. Whether fixing something, working on a project, or simply offering practical advice, Jim was a reliable presence in the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, his two sons, Mark (Cheryl) and Ned (Melissa), his eight granddaughters, and his ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two children, Vicki and Kent. Jim also cherished the devoted staff and other residents of Heritage Pointe as part of his extended family.
A memorial service will be held on January 13, 2025, at 2 pm at Heritage Pointe. Visitation will precede the service from 12 noon - 2 pm. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering Jim's life. In lieu of flowers, the family favors contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Jim Campbell lived a rich and full life and left a lasting legacy of love and service. His warm smile and kind heart will be missed but not forgotten.
