Janis Elaine
Highley
Jun 16, 1968 — May 19, 2026
Janis Elaine Highley, 57, of Warren, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Janis was born in Huntington, Indiana, to Marvin and Rosemary Zeller on June 16, 1968. She graduated from Huntington North High School and later earned a degree in Business Management atHuntington University. She married Larry Highley in April 1988 and celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Janis had a substantial impact on state and local agribusiness. Despite not entering her career until her children had graduated, Janis served roles at Salamonie Mills, Weaver Popcorn, Strategic Grain Hedge, and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council. Most prominent among Janis' agricultural contributions was her role within Indiana Farm Bureau. From her early involvement on the Huntington County Farm Bureau Board of Directors to her service as the District 4 Education and Outreach Coordinator andultimately as Indiana Farm Bureau's Second Vice President, Janis brought a thoughtful approach rooted in listening and collaboration. Her experience across agricultural business, extension education, and risk management helped her connect with members, partners, and policymakers across Indiana. She loved her work with the Women's Leadership Committee; Janis brought clarity and direction in advocacy for agriculture, safety initiativesfor farmers and leadership development for working women – representing the very best of Indiana agriculture.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janis' greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her family and found great joy in carrying for her horses and chickens on their centennial homestead. Her deepest pride was her sons, and her deepest love were her grandchildren.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Rosemary Zeller. She is survived by her sisters, Vicki Zeller and Claudia (Chod) Boxell; her husband, Larry Highley; her sons, Aaron (Annalise) Highley, and Brian (Jessica) Highley; her grandsons, Eli and Aiden Highley.
Janis will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her dedication to agriculture, and her love for her family and community. Her legacy as a steward of the land and supporter of those around her will not be forgotten.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Farm Bureau Foundation in the name of "Janis E. Highley" to support Young Farms & Ag Professionals programming or the Women's Leadership Committee programs – both programs of which Janis was passionate about.
