Obituary

Jocelyn Smith, 84, of Warren, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Jocelyn was born in Muncie on January 31, 1942, to the late William Franklin Weser and Theodale (Kariger) Jacobsen. Jocelyn graduated from Towson High School in 1960 and from the University of Maryland in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She spent several years in Maryland, returning to Indiana in 2003. In her working years she was a teacher in the Washington, D.C. area and in Baltimore; she concluded her career as an Allstate Insurance agent.

Jocelyn was known for her exceptional quilting, though she didn't want to be remembered as a famous quilter, just as someone who lived by her own terms, and tried to do the right thing. When sitting down to quilt, Jocelyn liked listening to Indiana Public Radio. She especially loved bringing people together to learn, collaborate on projects, and lived joyfully, immersed in endless and creative fun with her wonderfully supportive community of friends.

Jocelyn is survived by her two daughters, Susan and Cheryl and one grandson, Evan, sister Nina Joan Ross, and many special friends in the Warren and Marion communities. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother William Jerrold "Jerry" Weser.

A celebration of Jocelyn's life will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel, 801 N. Huntington Ave, Warren with Chaplain Cindy Osgood.
