Juanita Lois "Jay" Glancy Hughes, age 99, of Goshen, IN, formerly of Syracuse, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, passed away at 6:11am on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen. She was born on Thursday, August 20, 1925, in Hartford City, IN to Fred F. Sr. & Sarah Lois (Lyon) Glancy. She married James J. Hughes on July 13, 1947, in Hartford City; he passed away on October 23, 2010. She attended Roll High School, from which she graduated in 1943, and graduated from Ball State Teachers College in 1946. In 1982, Jay received her Masters of Education from IU South Bend. She taught high school Home Economics and was also a business teacher as well as a 4-H food judge. She taught at Fairfield High School in Elkhart County and was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Syracuse, and an associate member of Christ United Methodist Church of Venice, Florida. While at St. Andrew's, she served in several leadership and servant capacities, including many years at the church's thrift shop.  Her hobbies included reading, playing bridge, games and puzzles. Jay was a member of Junior Mother's Club, Red Hat Society, United Methodist Women and Elkhart County Retired Teachers. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jim, in their retirement. They would winter in Venice, Florida at Rambler's Rest Resort where she worked as activities director for many years.

She was preceded in death by her father Fred F. Glancy, Sr., mother Sarah Lois (Lyon) Glancy, Husband - James J. Hughes, a grandson who passed away in 2008, Zachariah Gann, brothers, Fred F. Glancy, Jr., Charles H. Glancy, and Perry L. Glancy.

Loving survivors include daughters Julie Wozniak, Pierceton, IN, Jenny (Gary) Lewis, Goshen, IN, son Jeff (Gretchen) Hughes, Fortville, IN, four grandchildren Mason (Jenni) Hughes, Morgan (Chris) Howard, Sarah (Aaron) Miller, Emily (Nick) White, 9 great grandchildren and brother Jerry L. Glancy.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker and Glancy Funeral Home, 109 West Windsor St., Montpelier, IN 47359 on Saturday, December 14, 2024. A visitation will precede the service from 9 to 11 am.  A memorial service to celebrate Juanita's life will follow at 11:00, with Pastor Gary Lewis officiating.  Everyone is invited to a meal following the service.  After the meal, interment will take place for the immediate family in the Zion Cemetery in rural Huntington County, IN.
