Martha "Louise"
Applegate
Feb 28, 1942 — Jun 22, 2026
Martha "Louise" Applegate, 84, of Warren, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 11:05 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Heritage Pointe in Warren.Born on February 28, 1942, in Muncie, Indiana, Louise was the daughter of James and Pauline (Griffey) Keele. On May 11, 1961, she married the love of her life, Charles "Tom" Applegate, in Muncie. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in family, friendship, and a deep devotion to the Warren community they proudly called home. Tom preceded her in death on May 17, 2025, after more than 64 years of marriage.
A 1960 graduate of Selma High School, Louise dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked at the United Methodist Memorial Home, now Heritage Pointe, from 1970 until 2005 in the kitchen, laundry, and housekeeping departments, where her compassion and work ethic touched countless residents and coworkers. She also served as a monitor and tutor at Warren Elementary School, where she became a familiar and trusted presence to many children and families.
Louise was the very definition of a servant's heart. She quietly and consistently poured herself into the lives of others, asking for little in return. Her greatest joy came from bringing people together, helping wherever she was needed, and making her community a better place for future generations. Her impact on Warren reached far beyond her career. Louise devoted years of service to the Salamonie Summer Festival Committee, especially enjoying the work that went into organizing the annual parade. In recognition of her tireless dedication, she and her dear friend, Deb Baker, were honored with the Samuel Jones Award in 2021.
One of Louise's greatest passions was investing in children. Alongside Deb Baker, she spent 26 years coaching the "Salamonie Mills" T-Ball team through the Warren Baseball and Softball League and with Deb by her side the two were Den Mothers for the Warren Cub Scouts for many years. The children she encouraged and the families she supported became part of her extended family, and her influence will continue to live on in their memories for years to come. Her fingerprints can be found all throughout Warren, in the children she coached, the festivals she helped create, the neighbors she served, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness. She showed her love not through grand gestures, but through years of simply showing up for others. Warren was a better place because Louise lived here, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Louise also enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She loved playing cards, bingo, pull tabs, and spent decades bowling with friends. She cherished laughter around a table, meaningful conversations, and every opportunity to make memories with those she loved. More than anything, Louise loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering support formed the foundation of her family and community.
She is survived by her son, Charles T. (Patty) Applegate, Jr. of Huntington, Indiana; daughter, Brenda Applegate of Bluffton, Indiana; grandchildren, Cylest, Amber, Megan, and Paige; great-grandchildren, Addison, Zoey, Emma, Ella-Rae, Nadine, and EJ; sisters, Carol (Dwight) Ferrell of Wartrace, Tennessee, Mary (David) Holton of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Sandy (Kenley) Grubbs of Wartrace, Tennessee; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pauline Keele; her husband, Charles "Tom" Applegate; brothers, Marvin "Buster" Keele, Leroy Keele, and Gary Keele; and her grandson, Charles Edward Applegate, who passed away in 1989.
