Melvin A. Eccles, 74, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at 6:00 AM on Friday, May 1, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Tuesday, September 18, 1951, in Van Buren, Indiana to Dilver & Norma Dean (Richardson) Eccles. He married Tamara Calhoun on Friday, July 9, 1993 in Huntington, she survives.

Melvin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, watching westerns, tending to his garden, and attending family reunions. He had a knack for finding a good deal at local garage sales and took pride in those small treasures. More than anything, Melvin cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved being around them and playing with them whenever he was able, creating memories they will carry with them forever.

He is survived by his wife, Tamara Eccles of North Manchester; his children, Ryan (Stephanie) Eccles, of Ossian, Paige Calhoun, of Huntington, Scott (Susan) Eccles, of North Manchester and Devon (Katie) Eccles of Huntington; his grandchildren, Kiley, Kailey, Aiden, Aleeah, Isaac, Noah, Wyatt, and Leon; his sisters, Marsha Pearson, of Gas City, Elesta Bishir of Fairmount, and Margaret Chance of Huntington; and his brother, Mike (Jennifer) Eccles of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dilver G. Eccles, Norman Eccles, Vondal Eccles, Merritt Eccles, Robert Eccles, Raymond Eccles, and Ronnie Eccles; and sister, Sharon Turner.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, located at 201 W. Main Street, Van Buren, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Following the gathering, a graveside service will take place in the Van Buren Cemetery.
