Butterfield
Nov 12, 1943 — Oct 25, 2025
Merrill LaMarr Butterfield, 81, of Warren, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 12, 1943, to Justus and Mable Butterfield.
Merrill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine Butterfield; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his loyal dog and best friend, Jack; daughters Ramona (Tony) Harshbarger of Warren, Indiana, and Rochelle (Michael) Myers of Indialantic, Florida; and son Lynn Butterfield of Douglasville, Georgia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Merrill worked at Dunbar Furniture for 35 years, drove semis for AG Best, and also worked for DeWeese's in Warren.
He was always active in his community and made time for people—always visiting, lending a hand, or simply sharing a kind word. Merrill had a kind heart and was known for his thoughtfulness and genuine care for others. He loved to travel and seek new adventures. His tinkering spirit brought life back to "old or broken things," and he found joy in fixing anything that came his way.
Merrill was a founding member and lifetime member of the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and an active member of The Church at McNatt.
He was also a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Group, which added to his adventures as he traveled throughout the United States on his beloved Goldwing motorcycle.
Passionate about helping others, Merrill spent many years collecting pull tabs and supplies for the Ronald McDonald House, proudly reaching over 1,000 pounds in donations.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering willingness to help his neighbors and those in need. Merrill was known for making ice cream for Marie's Creamery fundraisers and for sharing many stories of his life's adventures.
