Sharon Kay Haines, 86, of Berne, IN, passed away at 8:04 AM on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on Sunday, September 15, 1940, in Portland, IN. Sharon spent her early years in Jay County. She married Roger Lynn Haines on Friday, March 24, 1961. He preceded her in death in 1998. Sharon was a graduate of Portland High School. She worked as the administrator’s secretary at Jay Co. Hospital, Briggs Hardware in Geneva, East of Chicago Pizza Co. in Berne, and was part-owner and operator of Haines Drainage Service where she also served as secretary. Sharon enjoyed playing canasta, doing jigsaw puzzles, coloring, cooking, and above all spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be forever missed by her son, Michael L. Haines, Berne, IN, daughter, Kaye L. (Tony) Mellencamp, Berne, IN, and grandchildren, Blake Mellencamp, Indianapolis, IN, and Shelby (Chase) Venable, Danville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lynn Haines, father, Walter L. Reitenour, and mother, Catherine L. (Ireland) Reitenour.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington Street Geneva on Monday, October 26, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 26, 2026 with Pastor Steve Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.
