Obituary

Shirley Ann (DeHaven) Schoeff Ternet, 84, of Marion, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:57 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at her home.  Shirley was born on October 20, 1941, in Huntington, Indiana, to Henry Arlo "Hank" DeHaven and Doris S. (Hedrick) DeHaven. She was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Huntington County.

Shirley was a godly, loving woman whose life was centered around her faith, her family, and her genuine love for others. She had a special place in her heart for children and found great joy in nurturing, teaching, and encouraging them. Her kindness and caring nature were evident throughout her life and in the many ways she served those around her.

Following high school, Shirley worked at Community State Bank in Huntington. She later found a calling that suited her caring spirit as a kindergarten teacher's aide at Lancaster Elementary, where she worked for 20 years. She loved working with children, playing games with them, and watching them learn and grow. Her love for children also extended into her church life, where she enjoyed teaching Bible school and sharing her faith with younger generations.

Shirley enjoyed staying active and spending time with the people she loved. Over the years, she could often be found golfing, bowling, working in the yard, playing ping pong, or enjoying crafts of all kinds. More than anything, however, Shirley treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and faith will remain a lasting legacy to those who knew her. Shirley lived her life with a servant's heart, a deep love for her family, and an abiding faith in the Lord. The love she gave so freely, the children she encouraged, and the faith she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Shirley's first husband, Paul E. Schoeff, preceded her in death on February 16, 1994. On December 27, 1998, she married Charles D. Ternet in Ligonier, Indiana. He survives in Marion.

Also surviving are her sons, Matt (Christy) Schoeff of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bruce (Stephanie) Schoeff of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kent (Kaye) Schoeff of the Philipines; grandchildren, Cody (Ashley) Schoeff of Lima, Ohio, Makenzie Schoeff of Fort Wayne, Chase (Fiancee, Karleigh Rapson) Schoeff of Louisville, Haylee Schoeff of Louisville, Ileigh (Chris) Carlson of Japan, and Raena Schoeff of Japan; and great-grandchild, Jayden Schoeff of Lima, OH; sister, Wanda Spahr of Warren, Indiana; brothers, Gene (Mary Lou) DeHaven of Huntington and Gary (Carole) DeHaven of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Rochelle DeHaven of Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Arlo "Hank" and Doris S. (Hedrick) DeHaven; first husband, Paul E. Schoeff; sister, Beverly Ann DeHaven; brothers, Leland "Lamonie" DeHaven and Henry Edwin "Eddie" DeHaven; and brother-in-law, David Spahr.
